The best vacation we've ever had as a family was definitely our trip to Cabo this month with Gramma Pam. It honestly couldn't have been more relaxing. We truly felt removed from all the craziness of day-to-day life and got swept away in the warmth and beauty of Mexico. The quality time spent with each other, the kids and Gramma was just what the doctor ordered, especially coming from the dead of winter in Minnesota. It was so cool to watch the girls splash in the pool all day, enjoy the sun and sand, run on the beach, say "hola" to everyone they met, ask about how to say everything in Spanish and in general just have a ton of fun. Even the flights there and back were relatively uneventful, although there were some key moments when we were THOSE people on the plane with 2 screaming children - we got a few dirty looks, but not enough to care.
We were fortunate to be able to stay in a gorgeous penthouse condo, overlooking the Sea of Cortez right in between "Los Babos" - meaning, halfway between San Jose Del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. The condo was perfect, complete with private jacuzzi on the deck, our own elevator to the top floor, large open living spaces, luxurious bathrooms with rainshower shower heads that we could ALL fit in, remodeled kitchen, a huge master suite with windows open to the ocean and whales swimming by out front on a regular basis. It took about two full days to reconcile the fact that we were actually there. The condo is connected to a first class resort, Zoetry, of which we had full use of the facilities. DJ and I would often meander up there after the girls were in bed for a nightcap and a conversation under the stars. That is, if we were soaking in the jacuzzi under the stars. :) We all had our own rooms, girls included, however Addison insisted in sleeping with Gramma every night in what she called her "nest." Gramma made up one side of the bed with plenty of pillows and blankets and Addison snuggled right in. With the combination of constant activity all day long, missed naps, the ocean waves crashing in the background and the cozy quarters, the girls slept better than they ever do, usually making it to 6 or 6:30 before waking up. I know that sounds early, but that's heaven for us! They also ate like they never have before! Their mantra was "can we have a snack?" The whole place was relatively quiet and not busy at all, which just added to the slow pace and relaxation that we felt surrounding us.We started each day with coffee and relaxation and typically headed down to park it at the pool by about 10am. There was a PERFECT kiddie pool with a gradual entry that the girls just loved. It was great because although we kept an eye on them of course, we didn't have to worry too much about following them everywhere. With a ton of toys and floaties, they kept themselves very entertained. The one rainy day we headed into Cabo to tool around town, take a boat ride and have lunch. Gramma and I even rode horses on the beach one afternoon. Beautiful! We went out to dinner a couple of times all together, but mostly cooked in, which we love to do. BEST. SEAFOOD. EVER. Seriously...we couldn't believe how amazing and fresh everything from sushi-grade tuna to shrimp was. And CHEAP! I think we bought 3 pounds of fresh tilapia for around $5! I could live there for the seafood alone. Gramma watched the girls one night while DJ and I had a delicious dinner in perhaps the most romantic spot I could imagine...a beautiful restaurant under a palapa right on the ocean.
Everything was so wonderful and we were sad to leave. Addison said the other day "Mommy, I want to go back to Summer at Mexico." Cute! Thanks Gramma for the best vacation ever, we are all fans of the Cabo life!
I have to say that I have a love/hate with this blog....I spent a TON of time trying to get this posting right, and in chronological order but it's all jacked up. Not even close to everything is on here right now, but I will attempt to do a few additional posts to get it right. Enjoy!
Ta-da! I just threw this in here because it's cute, but there's no connection to Cabo :)
Dinner at the resport the first night - we were exhausted after a 3am wakeup time!

First time Addison has ever really fallen asleep on me since she was an infant!
